GOLD MOUNTAIN

Gold Mountain is an augmented reality experience made with the help of Janet Wang's creative vision and generous support from the Canada Council for Arts. The game is an interactive representation of the traditional Chinese-Taoist joss-burning practice of sending money and material goods to deceased relatives in the afterlife. Its gameplay features players collecting golden joss paper objects with Kinect controls and forming mountain pyres to set alight.

This project was also featured in the Janet Wang Art Exhibit at the Sunshine Coast Art Council Centre in Sechelt, British Columbia.

Project Contributions

  • Set up core architecture, game systems and shaders.

  • Integrated legacy Kinect software while creating wrapper classes to work with modern systems.

  • Developed swarm AI that was used to evaluate progress and adjust behaviour accordingly.

  • Worked closely with the CEO to bring her creative vision to life within the Unity game engine.

  • Performed Wwise integration within the audio progression of the game.

AR Development

To experience the game in the real world, the team had to learn to use both the Kinect and Nuitrack SDKs. These development kits allowed us to use the Kinect's hand-tracking software to interpret various gestures and communicate them to the game. Once the wrapper classes were set up, we could use events to develop the required input systems.
